The Italian National Research Council (CNR) is a public organisation. Its duty is to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research activities in the main sectors of knowledge growth and of its applications for the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the country.
CNR has more than 8200 employees of whom more than 4000 researchers active in almost 100 Institutes, working in the main fields of scientific research. Two CNR Institutes will be involved in the EcoScope consortium: the Institute for Biological Resources and Marine Biotechnologies (IRBIM) and the Institute of Information Science and Technologies (ISTI). CNRIRBIM conducts research mostly in the Mediterranean region, focusing on several themes: fisheries and aquaculture, ecosystem modelling, oceanography, climate and paleoclimate, biogeochemistry, coastal systems and fishing technology. CNR-ISTI aims at increasing knowledge, developing and testing new ideas in ICT, and widening the related application areas. Both institutes have expertise in data poor and data rich methods for stock assessment onto Cloud Computing platforms and and have an official agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations for supporting their research and educational activities. CNR has extensive experience on undertaking international programmes concerning the marine ecosystem, fishery resources assessment and management including, FP7 and H2020 projects. The most relevant for EcoScope are MareFrame (FP7-613571), EcoFishMan (FP7-265401), iMarine (FP7- 283644), BENTHIS (FP7- 312088), BlueBRIDGE (H2020-675680).
