The 2024 Ocean Decade Conference, taking place in Spain, Barcelona from 10 – 12 April 2024, will serve as a significant milestone in the implementation of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).

Entering its fourth year, the UN Decade of Ocean Science has been a collaborative effort led by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, uniting global partners to spearhead crucial scientific initiatives aimed at sculpting a sustainable future for our oceans.

At this critical juncture, the conference serves as a moment for reflection on the Ocean Decade's accomplishments since its inception and an opportunity to chart the focused actions required over the next three to five years.

The 2024 Ocean Decade Conference is dedicated to upholding the commitment of "delivering the science we need for the ocean we want." It will gather the global Ocean Decade community and collaborators in Barcelona to celebrate achievements, assess progress, and collectively outline future priorities.

This event marks a significant waypoint on the path to 2030 and will cover a wide array of Ocean Decade Challenges. Priority areas include addressing pressing concerns like climate change, ensuring food security, managing biodiversity effectively, nurturing a sustainable ocean economy, combating pollution, and mitigating natural hazards.

Spanning three consequential days, the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference aims to lay the groundwork for robust and sustainable ocean governance. It seeks to ignite global and local-scale innovation driven by scientific insights, ensuring inclusivity and leaving no individual or community behind in this shared pursuit.
