22nd FishBase and SeaLifeBase Annual Symposium: Fishes in Changing Ecosystems

The 22nd FishBase and SeaLifeBase Symposium, themed "Fishes in Changing Ecosystems," will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on September 2-3, 2024, at the KEDEA Building of the Aristotle University Campus.

The symposium welcomes contributions that are related to ecology, biogeography, fisheries, taxonomy and biodiversity of marine organisms and their use in FishBase/SeaLifeBase with particular reference to climate change and the Mediterranean marine ecosystems.

Day 1️⃣: Advances in the Gill Oxygen Limitation Theory (GOLT)

  • Theme: Examining the applicability of the Gill Oxygen Limitation Theory to new topics or taxa and quantifying its qualitative predictions.
  • Keynote: Dr. Daniel Pauly, co-creator of FishBase, will lead this session as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Sea Around Us initiative at the University of British Columbia.

Day 2️⃣: Fishes in Mare Nostrum

  • Theme: Presentations on FishBase and SeaLifeBase-related topics with a focus on the Mediterranean marine ecosystems.

Selected contributions will be invited for submission to a Topical Collection (entitled "Fishes in Changing Ecosystems") in The new "Discover Oceans" journal that has been recently launched by Springer-Nature. The collection will be guest-edited by Donna Dimarchopoulou, Athanassios Tsikliras and Daniel Pauly.

  • Date and Location: September 2-3, 2024, at the KEDEA Building, Aristotle University’s Research Dissemination Center, Tritis Septemvriou St., Aristotle University campus, Thessaloniki, Greece.
  • Remote Option: In-person presentations will be live-streamed. Connection details will be provided to registered online attendees. Due to technical constraints, all presenters must use remote presentations.
